ITALY-CANADA: EMBASSY IN OTTAWA CELEBRATES CANADA NUTRITION MONTH

The Italian embassy in Ottawa, as part of the Canada Nutrition Month initiative, organized the “Food, nutrition and health” event in collaboration with the University of Ottawa, focused on the link between nutrition, health and well-being , with a specific focus on the Mediterranean diet. The occasion, a note reports, was attended by around one hundred guests including students, professors and researchers from the University’s science faculty, as well as representatives of Canadian institutions in the sector and members of the diplomatic corps in Canada. The works were opened by two internationally renowned Italian researchers: Stefania Maggi, director of research at the Cnr and president of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation; and Antonella Amato, professor of physiology at the University of Palermo. The interventions focused on the positive impact of the Mediterranean diet on the well-being of the population, also in terms of prevention of aging and cognitive decline. Following this, the Embassy’s reference chef, Cristian Lepore, held a cooking show in which he explained how the ingredients at the basis of the Mediterranean diet can be combined in various ways to obtain healthier dishes, while maintaining the taste that makes them famous all over the world. The event concluded with an exhibition of scientific posters, including the one created by the Embassy on the Mediterranean diet, Italian food and Italian sounding. (Was) NNNN
