Prof Gaetano Crepaldi, father of the Mediterranean Diet Foundation, has died

The Mediterranean Diet Foundation announces that on Wednesday 24 January 2024, in the city of Padua, Prof Gaetano Crepaldi, its honorary president and founder, as well as honorary citizen of Ostuni, passed away.

The President, the Vice President, the Board of Directors, the Coordinator of the Scientific Committee and all its members, the General Secretary and the Members gather around the professor’s family, heartbroken at the loss of a great man of science and fervent supporter of the Mediterranean lifestyle.

In fact, he laid the foundations for the birth of a Foundation committed to authentically spreading the value of the Mediterranean diet, which is better known today also thanks to his important study and research work.

The deep bond with the land of Brindisi and in particular with the city of Ostuni, his second home, originates from the fraternal friendship with the late doctor. Pierino Lacorte, to whom he was close until the last moments of his life.

Specialist in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Geriatrics, Crepaldi was the Director of the first Medical Clinic of the University of Padua and Director of the Aging Section of the Institute of Neuroscience of the National Research Council, based in Padua, then president and founder of the Leonardo Foundation, of the L. Amaducci Consortium and of numerous international scientific societies.
